A Cultural Clash
This fall, USC’s Fisher museum hosted a halloween-themed monster drag show — Drag Me to Hell — which made headlines when it was attended by evangelical protesters who showed up to denounce the event and its participants. Shooting this event multiplied my love for photojournalism in an unexpected way. Had I not taken this assignment for The Daily Trojan’s Arts & Entertainment section, I would have never considered attending this kind of gathering and I would have missed out on learning about the interesting subculture it represented. After this event, I realized that photojournalism has the potential to provide me with the opportunity to see and learn about things that I would never have the chance to otherwise. For someone who hopes to learn all that they can about this earth, that was a powerful realization.
