Sand and Sky
Often, sports photographers latch on to their subject so tightly that they forget to incorporate their surroundings. It is so tempting to focus exclusively on tight shots that portray the immense physicality of the sport. While those shots are valuable, individually they often fail to tell a complete story. In this brief collection I attempt to avoid that pitfall! The majority of these shots were taken at an upwards angle from the ground so that the sand and sky feature prominently alongside the athletes, embracing the beachy vibe at the Huntington Pier. This kind of thinking is crucial to my process as a sports photographer and photojournalist and I believe it is what separates my sports work from others.
